RTE Drives

Route 66 Controls designs and manufactures state-of-the-art motor drives that integrate advanced control and power electronic technologies. Our drives are engineered for high performance and efficiency, making them ideal for industrial, automotive, and aerospace applications. By collaborating closely with customers and manufacturers, we ensure seamless compatibility with existing systems while tailoring solutions to meet specific operational demands. Our commitment to innovation and quality results in motor drives that maximize efficiency, reliability, and overall system performance, empowering businesses to achieve superior results in their applications.

What is "Wide Bandgap" technology?

Wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor technologies, particularly silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN), are revolutionizing power electronics by offering superior efficiency, higher power density, and improved thermal performance compared to traditional silicon-based devices. SiC is ideal for high-voltage applications such as electric vehicles and industrial power systems due to its low switching losses and high-temperature tolerance. GaN, with its high-frequency capabilities, is widely used in compact, high-efficiency power supplies and RF applications. These technologies enable more efficient energy conversion, reduced system size, and enhanced performance in modern power electronic systems. We have been one of the pioneers in utilizing SiC and GaN for advanced drive applications.

What is FOC?

Field-Oriented Control (FOC) motor drives are an advanced technique for controlling AC motors, such as permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) and induction motors, with high precision and efficiency. By dynamically adjusting the motor’s magnetic field in real-time, FOC ensures optimal torque and speed control, reducing energy losses and improving overall performance. This method enables smoother operation, faster response times, and better efficiency, making it ideal for applications in industrial automation, electric vehicles, and robotics. FOC motor drives enhance reliability and precision, offering superior performance compared to traditional scalar control methods. We combine the FOC theory with model predictive control and reinforcement learning for a comprehensive machine learning adaptive solution to achieve an unbeatable performance.

What are the common sensor types?

Motor drives rely on various speed and position sensors to achieve precise control and efficient operation. Hall sensors are commonly used for detecting rotor position in brushless DC motors, providing cost-effective and reliable feedback. Shaft encoders, including optical and magnetic types, offer high-resolution position and speed measurement, making them ideal for precision applications like robotics and CNC machines. Resolvers, known for their robustness and ability to operate in harsh environments, provide absolute position feedback and are widely used in aerospace, automotive, and industrial applications. Each sensor type has its advantages, and selecting the right one depends on the application's accuracy, cost, and environmental requirements. We also offer sensorless drives which are the best solution for extreme-speed motor drives such as turbogenerator applications at 250,000 RPM.

What is a bidirectional drive?

Bidirectional motor drives enable machines to operate in both motoring and generating modes. These drives can operate in four quadrants: the first and third quadrants correspond to motoring modes, where the motor drives a load in forward or reverse directions. The second and fourth quadrants represent regenerative braking, where the motor acts as a generator, converting kinetic energy back into electrical energy. Four-quadrant operation enhances energy efficiency, allows smooth speed transitions, and enables dynamic braking for better performance in demanding applications. All of our drives are four quadrant, and the user can enable or disable braking capability or lock the direction.
